Holiday Events in southern Utah December 2-7, 2013

Christmas in Dixie

Monday, December 2, 2013

Annual Lighting of the Washington City Christmas tree! This will be the 5th year our family has attended this event and we look forward to it. School choirs sing Christmas carols, hot chocolate is served, and the city tree lights up. This is a free event to get the family into the Christmas spirit. Be sure to dress warm!

The tree lighting and school choirs will be at the Veterans Park, 75 E. Telegraph, Washington. Be sure to also visit the historic Covington Home at the corner of 200 N. 200 E. in Washington to see Santa that evening.

Christmas in Town Square

December 2-5, 2013

From 6-7 pm each night of December 2nd – 5th you can visit the St. George Town Square near the Carousel for a fun and unique Christmas experience. Santa will be at the carousel each night and you can go for a ride. There will be performances by high school choirs, crafts, games, and a light parade. This event is FREE!

Located at 100 S. Main Street, St. George, UT. Sponsored by St. George City Recreation.

Dickens Christmas Festival

December 4-7, 2013 from 10 am – 9 pm

Transport yourself to another time! Guests will be greeted by actors dressed as characters from Charles Dickens’ stories, “Fagin” and “Scrooge.” There is continuous entertainment from local and statewide performing groups. You can also view mini productions of Dickens’ “Oliver Twist” and “Scrooge.” The children can visit “Father Christmas” to tell him their Christmas wishes.

Festival of Trees

Hosted by SUU’s Department of Theatre Arts and Dance

December 5th – 7th

This is a community and family event that is held in the lobby of the Randall L. Jones Theatre (W College Ave, Cedar City, UT) with viewing from Noon until 6 pm each day. December 7th will also bring a host of other activities within the theater. While donations of canned goods are requested to benefit Iron County Care and Share, all events are free and open to the public.

All trees on display have been decorated and provided by local businesses and individuals. These trees are donated to the festival and will be sold through silent auction, with all proceeds being donated to Iron County Care and Share. The Utah Shakespeare Festival will be decorating the entire length of the balcony of the Randall L. Jones Theatre with a Christmas Village which is sure to be a sight to behold.

Saturday, December 7th, there will be readings of Christmas stories starting at 12:30 pm, and local choirs and dance groups performing for the community. Santa will join the festival at about 1 pm and be in the lobby for children and families to visit. During open house times visitors can bid on trees. Winning bids will be announced on December 9th and trees delivered soon after.

In support of the Festival of Trees, with a donation of a can of food the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance is offering a $2 discount on the price of admission to A Christmas Carol On The Air.

Tuacahn Nativity

From November 29 – December 23, 2013 Tuacahn Center for the Arts holds the Festival of Lights every Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. There is free admission to enjoy the beautiful lights, listen to holiday music, and to visit Santa Claus. For $2 a person you can take a ride on the Old Salty Train.

They also have a wonderful live nativity that our family has enjoyed seeing the last 2 years. The cost of the nativity is $2 a person or $15 per family (up to 10 people). Showings are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 7 pm and 8 pm. The live nativity show lasts 20 minutes in duration. It is held in the outdoor amphitheater, so be sure to dress warm! www.tuacahn.org

Tonaquint Nature Center Holiday Social

Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Join the Tonaquint Nature Center in this annual event. There will be holiday games to be played, crafts to be made, refreshments to be nibbled on, reindeer food to be made and holiday cheer to be shared with all. Families are encouraged to search outside along the Nature Center’s trails for winter birds. Find them all and get a prize!

The general public is invited to attend the event for FREE! Holiday crafts are $1 each, pictures with Santa are $1.50, and holiday cookie decorating is 50 cents per cookie. Hurricane Valley Christmas Tree Festival

Friday & Saturday, December 6 & 7, 2013

This is Hurricane City’s annual Christmas event with trees decorated by local businesses, schools, and families. Bid on a tree and support a worthy cause. All proceeds will go to the Hurricane City Police Department Shop With a Cop Fund. There will also be baked goods and crafts for sale and lots of great entertainment. Located at the Hurricane Community Center, 68 S. 100 W.

Breakfast With Santa

Community Education brings you Breakfast with Santa! Reserve a time to visit Santa and enjoy breakfast. Reservations start every half hour from 9 am – 11 am. Register online at: https://ce.dixie.edu/index.php. Cost is $5 if you register early and $7 at the door.

Run Run Reindeer 10K, 5K, & 1-Miler

Race Santa Claus in this fun race for the whole family! Choose the 10K, 5K, or 1 Mileer. Stick around after for prizes, giveaways, hot chocolate, and doughnuts. Bring a new unopened toy to donate to Toys for Tots.

Packet Pick Up: Friday, Dec 6th from 3-7 at the St. George Running Center & Saturday, Dec 7th 7:30-8:45 am before the race

Start Times: 1-Miler starts at 9 am. 10K/5K begin at 9:15 am

Prizes: The first 100 registered 10K/5K runners will receive Rudolph antlers (and hopefully you will wear them in the race). 1-Mile runner will race Santa for prizes. Overall winners of the 10K/5K will receive new running shoes from the St. George Running Center. Gift cards for $25 to the St. George Running Center will be awarded to the top 3 most festive costumes!

Register: Register before November 16th for a discount. Late registration by Dec. 4th.

Story Book Holiday Parade

December 7, 2013 @ 2 pm
